KC Online, Inc.
Acceptable Use Policy General Use of KC Online for illegal activities of any kind, including unauthorized use (or attempted unauthorized use) of KC Online's machines or other machines on the Internet, forging header information or user identification information, software piracy, or dissemination of obscene or adult oriented materials is prohibited. Sending harassing or mass unsolicited e-mail is prohibited. Forging header information in e-mail is prohibited. Use of programs such as mflash or storage of such programs on our servers is prohibited. For more information on KC Online e-mail policies, see paragraphs 14 and 15 of the user agreement. World Wide Web (WWW) Use of web pages for advertising or other business purposes requires a KC Online business account. For more information on business accounts, see our Service Plans & Rates page. Pages containing pornography, obscenity, adult-oriented material, or material that promotes the breaking of any laws may not be stored on our servers. Use of text or images created by others without their permission is copyright infringement and is prohibited. Sites that generate a high traffic may be required to move from the user web server to another KC Online server. See paragraph 16 of the user agreement for further information. Usenet Newsgroups KC Online does not allow newsgroups containing adult or illegal content on our news servers. Each newsgroup sets its own policies about what are appropriate topics for discussion; Members are expected to abide by these policies in the groups they participate in. Posting 20 or more copies of the same article (spamming) or continued off-topic posting to newsgroups is prohibited. Commercial advertisements are off-topic in virtually all Usenet newsgroups. Excessive crossposting (Breidbart Index 20 or greater) is prohibited. The Breidbart Index (or BI) is calculated by taking the sum of the square roots of the number of newsgroups each copy of an article was crossposted to. If two articles are posted, one crossposted to 9 newsgroups and the other crossposted to 16 newsgroups, the BI = sqrt(9)+sqrt(16) = 3+4 = 7. For more information on "spam" see the FAQ on "Current Usenet span thresholds and guidelines" which is regularly posted to the news.admin.net-abuse.misc newsgroup by Chris Lewis. Articles which are "spam" originating from HoosierLink / KC Online will be cancelled by us and the originator may be charged for the cost of cleanup and responding to complaints. Posting articles with forged header information (e.g., a falsified "From:" field) is prohibited. "Anti-Spam" header "From:" fields are allowed as long as the real senders e-mail address can be determined by manual inspection. For more information on KC Online's Usenet policies, see paragraphs 13 and 14 of the user agreement. Internet Relay Chat Use of IRC bots or storing them on KC Online servers is prohibited. You may access IRC servers hosted on other systems providing that you comply with the rules of that system. Impersonating other users by forging one's email address is prohibited. Flooding, cloning, spoofing, harassment, or otherwise hindering the ability of others to properly use IRC is prohibited. Public FTP Sites Use of KC Online's FTP server for advertising purposes requires a business account. Reselling FTP space is prohibited. Files containing pornography, obscenity, adult-oriented material, or material that promotes the breaking of any laws may not be stored on our servers. Use of our servers for the exchange of pirated software or software designed to facilitate copyright infringement, unauthorized use of computer systems, credit card fraud, or other illegal activity is prohibited. Storage/Transferring of Files Storing, transferring, or allowing to be transferred (this includes FTP and WWW) any internal KC Online file that is not located in the user's own directory structure and owned by the user is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to sending via ftp, allowing outside access to, mailing, or otherwise giving access to any file that is not owned by the user. Hacking/Cracking software, utilities, or any program that can be used to allow unauthorized access or gain unauthorized information about a computer, network, or file is prohibited. Files containing pornography, obscenity, adult-oriented material, or material that promotes the breaking of any laws are prohibited. Cooperation With Law Enforcement KC Online will cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies investigating illegal activities. KC Online will also inform appropriate authorities of any illegal activities that we discover on our system. Failure of KC Online to discover such activity does not imply that such activity is condoned. Updated: 3/1/99 |
